In my previous article “8 Simple Anti-Aging Tips From 47 Year Young Girl” I wrote about my organic process of learning “face yoga” for firming, elasticity and rejuvenation. In this article, I will go into a more in-depth explanation as to how, when and the benefits of face yoga. I will include a fun tutorial video snippet to get you started on your journey to living youthfully without costly, painful cosmetic surgery, botox procedures, and harmful practices.
I believe that when we can use our own skills and awareness to start simple practices that work and are effective, we become empowered and start feeling beautiful from the inside out.
We all know that, especially for women, there is tremendous pressure to maintain our youth. The beauty industry has a very costly approach and, most often times, very harmful effects. It promotes comparison, celebrity idolization and unrealistic photoshopped images for us to strive to keep up with.
My intention is to empower you to start simple practices and use cost-effective tools to assist you in living your best life.
It’s not about “looking” the youngest it’s about “feeling” beautiful in your skin and owning your life force.
It all starts from within!
What conversations do you have with yourself about yourself? Do you affirm your youth, health, and beauty or do you project unhealthy patterns and thoughts towards yourself? These are very important questions to ask yourself.
It doesn’t matter how much “face yoga”, beauty products and practices you do if your heart and thoughts aren’t centered on encouragement, non-comparison and daily positive affirming actions and thoughts towards yourself and others.
Here’s a simple guide to a daily routine of youthful living:
- Start each day with gratitude first.
- Drink lots of good water.
- Say affirmations that inspire, uplift and encourage you.
- Redirect your thoughts and words when they are negative.
- Eat fresh live whole foods as much as possible.
- Stay away from comparisons altogether.
- Bask in things that make your heart warm.
A little bonus that seems to be very powerful that I practice and now has become automatic is to bless others when you see their struggle. If you see someone with challenged health, skin and life force energy, say a prayer with intentional healing for them. See them vibrant, healthy with beautiful skin and a heart to match.
We can hold intentions for others and see them in their highest light. Prayer is powerful. By doing this for ourselves and others it empowers us and blessings flow. Never underestimate the power of your intentional thoughts and compassion.
Now let’s get into the practice of “face yoga!”
What is face yoga and where did it originate?
First off “face yoga” is a well-known practice that has existed for many years and there are many practitioners. I myself learned it from my mother by watching her as a child and had no knowledge of it before that. I’ve perfected it to fit my lifestyle.
I have my own experience with it and by practicing it throughout my life, I deem myself the proof that it works. For me, that’s good enough! I see the results and if you know anything about yoga itself you know it most definitely strengthens, enhances and adds vital life force.
While practicing it I feel centered, inspired, present, and attentive to my needs. It’s fun, makes you feel lighthearted and refreshed.
How Do You Do Face Yoga?
You can literally practice face yoga anytime anywhere.
I choose to do it with my nightly beauty routine. This way I know I get it in daily and it sets the tone for a great nights rest. I wake feeling refreshed, revitalized with a firm face and neck, with a glow.
I cleanse and apply my nightly moisturizer while doing “face yoga” knocking out 3 vital practices simultaneously. Cleanse, moisturize and firm.
You can start with any area of your face and don’t forget to include your neck and decollete area.
As I’m doing the motions for stretching and contorting the face and neck, I’m applying my moisturizer at the same time, this ensures that you’re working your moisturizer in deeply.
My nightly skin care routine takes me about 15 minutes total every night. A very small commitment of time and effort. I always look directly in the mirror up close, feeling into my thoughts and body, making sure they are aligned with conscious and positive reinforcement.
It’s like a mini-meditation!
I apply moisturizer to my entire body, face, neck, and décolletage. I emphasize the décolletage here because it’s often the forgotten area of our bodies that can show aging rapidly for women.
As I work the moisturizer in, I begin to stretch, contort my entire face, brow line, neckline, cheeks, lips and everything I can possibly move and tighten on my face, using my fingers as a guide to push and activate the flow of the lymphatic system throughout the entire face.
We always think exercise is for the body but tend to forget that our faces also have muscles, tendons, and fascia that need movement, release, and strengthening.

We hear so much about self-love and the importance of taking care of ourselves these days, but what does that really mean? What does it look like and how do we truly embody loving ourselves fully? With anything, there are many different components and levels of creating healthy daily self-love practices to maintain a well-balanced lifestyle.
In this article, I’m going to share with you the importance of a holistic approach to self-love and self-care, and my favorite daily self-love practices you can start today!
We consist of three major aspects: mind, body, and soul. It’s important that we address each one of these aspects as a whole.
Some things are commonly well-known facts and other things I will be sharing may come as a surprise. My intention in writing this article is to inspire, educate and to provide reminders of the benefits of creating very doable healthy habits of self-love.
6 Self-Love Daily Practices
A great place to start in creating a self-love/self-care routine is MINDFULNESS.
Everything starts within. Our minds literally dictate the outer reality of our worlds. When our minds are filled with senseless ramblings, toxic conversations, non-stop stress and worry, repetitive thoughts from the past and obsessing over small things it affects our overall health tremendously.
How you think and how you feel creates your state of being. Be intentional in your behaviors, actions, and reactions.
Set the intention for yourself to expand your awareness and knowledge of being mindful and watch how quickly information comes into your sphere. Make a commitment to loving yourself on a deeper level.
His studies have proven that meditation and mindfulness when well-practiced can put us on the path to understanding and breaking deep-rooted bad habits and even illnesses.

2. Spiritual and Physical Diet
What you feed your spiritual body and your physical temple is as important as mindfulness.
Many religions and spiritual communities speak of the importance of maintaining a clean healthy diet and the reason for that is because our vessels operate more effectively when we are free of toxic chemicals and processed foods. We thrive with living organic whole foods that are free of pesticides and endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruptors consist of synthetic chemicals that are in products like plastics and fragrances can mimic hormones and interfere with or disrupt the delicate endocrine dance. We’re exposed to these chemicals daily.
Here’s a list of things you can do to lower your exposure:
- wash your hands frequently avoiding fragrances and anti-bacterial soaps;
- avoid perfumes and highly fragrant cleaning products and soaps. Use therapeutic grade essential oils instead;
- use glass instead of plastic. Any time you’re in the market for something plastic research for safer alternatives;
- dust and vacuum floors and furniture often;
- try to avoid cans and canned foods, instead choose fresh, frozen or dried foods;
- filter your tap water;
- rethink your cosmetics and buy from companies that are dedicated to creating clean, non-toxic and cruelty-free products;
- clean smarter, buying from companies that voluntarily disclose their ingredients look for the “Safe Choice Label” or make homemade cleaners using baking soda and vinegar which are healthy and effective cleaners.
Now let’s talk about a spiritual diet! It consists of anything you take in through your five senses: smell, sight, sound, touch, taste.
You may ask why is this so important to our journey of self-love? Here’s why; everything we take into our spiritual bodies gets stored and recorded in some fashion.
For example, if you watch a scary movie filled with lots of violence you may often find yourself having nightmares and this is because we have fed this into our psyche and it gets stored in our subconscious.
When we listen to hardcore lyrics and that are filled with violent suggestions and disrespectful lyrics we are more inclined to be aggressive and desensitized to things that are harmful to our spirit.
It’s important to fill your spirit with loving, positive and kind images, sounds, smells and tastes.
We live in a world filled with violent and depraved imagery that our television shows, movies, and video games are full of. It has quite frankly become the norm but in reality, our bodies and nervous systems respond to the hurtful and violent imagery as though it is real.
Develop a practice of tuning into pleasant and more palatable information.
I’m certainly one to practice moderation in all things and I’m not suggesting that you can completely shield or rid yourself from unpleasant sights, sounds, tastes and smells, but what I am suggesting is to be mindful and set personal boundaries that ensure that you are feeding your soul food that is enhancing as opposed to limiting or harmful.
3. Sleep Well
In the last few years, there has been a surge of information coming out about how critical it is that we get the proper amount of rest required for high functionality.
In today’s world, it has become fashionable to work and play as hard as you can push yourself. It’s become unpopular to sleep. It’s been programmed in our society that we should be pushing ourselves to do more, to take on more, to keep pushing through our exhaustion at the cost of our health.
We have to begin re-writing this program. We have to educate ourselves and develop healthy practices that allow us to get the optimal amount of rest needed for us to be able to live in our highest expression.
4. Physical Exercise
In today’s world, we see such a polarity where exercise and physical activity is a concern. It seems like people are either fitness fanatics or extremely sedentary. It’s vital that you create a well-balanced exercise routine that is customized around your interests and things that inspire you.
One of the reasons I feel getting inspire to be more active can be such a slow process is because people tend to think in limiting ways of being active. It does not always have to be a gym membership or a yoga class, although those activities are great too if that’s what you’re inspired by. I find what works best is doing things that make you happy while you are participating in them and things that give you a sense of stress release. Ideally, you want to do things that give you a well-rounded exposure to increase your heart rate, blood flow, moving energy through your body, increasing flexibility, sense of calm and creating joy.
There are so many healthy activities that increase your self-care practice.
Here is a list of things that may pique your interest:
- tai chi;
- martial arts;
- walking in nature;
- jumping rope;
My point here is that if you get involved in something that you really enjoy vs. just straight forward exercise you will be more likely to be consistent and it won’t feel like a chore that you dread. We all go through times of feeling unmotivated or sluggish. A great suggestion is to remind yourself that you deserve to live a healthy lifestyle in a healthy body.
Also trying new things and learning new skill sets will enhance your mindset towards getting involved in exercise activities.

There’s a teacher with free content for literally everything you could possibly be interested in. Research your App Store it’s a great tool for finding apps that help you get involved and track your progress as well.
5. Expand your knowledge
By expanding your awareness you will naturally enhance your vitality. Sometimes we get complacent in what we think we already know. We are stuck in limiting patterns and mindsets.
Challenge yourself to grow! This can also be done in so many ways. Here are some things that really aide in strengthening your self-care practices:

6. Pamper Yourself
Pampering yourself may be one of the most pleasurable self-care acts to make a priority in your life. Treating yourself to a variety of self-loving actions to improve your overall well being is very important to your vitality.
Many of us make excuses that we don’t have the time or extra money but in fact, there are many inexpensive at-home therapies you can do for yourself and you have to prioritize your me-time. Maybe instead of watching your favorite tv show or working an extra hour on a project, you can choose to give back to yourself first.
You can do small self-care acts daily as well as setting aside at least one day a week that is purely dedicated to pampering yourself.
Small acts go a long way. Daily presence with yourself takes little effort.
It could be something as small as having a cup of herbal tea and enjoying a few moments of silence. Taking a short walk and saying affirmations. Taking a nap, listening to relaxing music, reading a few chapters of your favorite book, pulling weeds in your garden, planting seeds in your garden, spending quality time with your pets, cutting fresh flowers and making floral arrangements to beautify your space. There are literally endless amounts of things you can do.

To reveal your Dosha, this Ayurvedic body type quiz uses information about your basic personality – your nature as a child and your basic principles for most of your life. If, say, you have been sick during childhood or as an adult, think of how your life was before that illness. If you display more than one quality in each characteristic, settle for the one that is most applicable.
Your answer to objective physical characteristics should be obvious. However, mental traits and behavior are usually subjective. Thus, your response will be inclined towards how you have felt and been most of your life or in recent years. 1. How would you describe your body stature?
This includes your height, body build, muscle development, and size. Are you tall, short, thin, stout or thick? How would you best describe your body frame? Maybe you have a symmetrical build with fair muscle development.
Vata: tall or short height, narrow bone.
Pitta: strong build, good muscle tone.
Kapha: curvy shape.
What effect do your eating habits have on your body weight? Some people eat more but still don’t put on weight. Is it easy for you to gain or lose weight?
Vata: slim, it’s hard to put on weight.
Pitta: moderate weight, it’s easy to drop weight as well as to put it on.
Kapha: a tendency to be overweight. Weight is quickly gained, and it is very difficult to lose it.
3. Skin complexion (color and texture)
Is your skin dark? Is it rough or smooth?
Vata skin is thin, tans easily, fresh, fine-pored, it doesn’t blush easily, slightly dry, wrinkles early, has dark circles under the eyes.
Pitta skin is delicate, oily in “T” zone, blushes easily, has broken capillaries, has peaches and cream or coppery tone, has whiteheads, changes in pigmentation, freckled, it has allergic reactions.
Kapha skin is thick, well hydrated, ages well, slightly oily or excessively oily, has blackheads, sweats easily, has enlarged pores and cystic acne, puffiness under the eyes, has pale/white tone.
Depending on your dosha type, your hair could be dry, brittle, or fine. Do you have abundant, thick and oily hair?
Vata hair: stiff, curly, dry.
Pitta: thin, mostly straight.
Kapha: thick, shiny, long, can be straight or wavy.
5. Sleep pattern
Some people are light sleepers while others are deep sleepers. Do you awaken easily in the morning? Or do you struggle to get out of bed?
Vata: hard to fall and/or stay asleep.
Pitta: don’t struggle to fall asleep, but don’t stay asleep for long durations.
Kapha: fall and stay asleep without struggling
6. Stress management
Stress is normal in our day-to-day lives. However, we each cope with stress differently. Do you become withdrawn and/or reclusive under stress?
Vata: increased susceptibility to anxiety.
Pitta: a tendency to irritability and anger.
Kapha: fatigue, lack of vigor, slow reaction.
Are you easy going and accepting or are you lively and enthusiastic by nature?
Vata: melancholic temperament.
Pitta: choleric temperament.
Kapha: phlegmatic temperament.
Your ease at decision-making will vary depending on your dosha type. This may also influence how well you handle stress. Are you usually calm and collected or are you tensed at the slightest provocation? The category of Vata dosha is built to process things more quickly. Hence, they are the best at decision-making.
Vata: problematic decision-making.
Pitta: fast and decisive decision-making.
Kapha: carefully thought out decision-making.

Different doshas exhibit different energies around them. You will observe that some people are more lively, talkative, or active than others.
Vata: energetic, creative, active.
Pitta: ambitious, brave, confident.
Kapha: calm, slow, lazy, confident.

Below is a description, in summary, of the three dosha types. Compare it against your responses in the Ayurvedic body type quiz above to find out your dosha type.
People of this Dosha type have a lean or delicate body build with fine hair and dry skin. Generally, Vata is very vibrant and energetic. They also have very inventive and creative minds. However, their mood can be quite unpredictable at times.
Although Vata Doshas are quick learners, their long-term memory is not that good. Since they are flexible at decision-making, they will seldom be stressed or anxious. Vata dosha is usually live around people and quick to speak. But, they can be lighthearted at times.
Vata Dosha is good at multi-tasking, but they can also be very sensitive. They also find it hard to fall and/or stay asleep.
These ones have a relatively medium build with fair muscle development. They have a passion for leadership and are not afraid to speak up and take charge. Pitta dosha tends to be quite protective when provoked and is fierce opponents.
However, they have a knack for building connections and make very good friends. Pitta dosha is often honest and straight to the point. Although they may seem intimidating, Pitta dosha is very social beings.
They can be quite determined and don’t give up easily. They have bursts of energy to take on challenges. Their sleep patterns are moderate. Although they don’t struggle to fall asleep, they can’t stay asleep for long durations.
Thick bones and solid stature can identify Kapha Dosha. They are usually calm, collected and slow to anger, and therefore, not easily provoked. They are loving and caring, and this makes them good acquaintances.
However, Kapha Dosha is often conservative and learn slowly with a high level of retention. They fall and stay asleep without struggling. Although they move slowly, they are very purposeful and enterprising people.
Most people will relate freely to Kapha Dosha due to their easygoing personality. They can be shy, however, and even depressed if it is too much.

Tips For Vata Dosha
- Maintain healthy habits, eat and go to bed at the same time.
- Get enough rest and choose warm, nutritious and easy to digest food. Sweet berries, fruits, beans, rice, and all kinds of nuts will serve as an excellent choice for Vata Dosha.
- The intensity of exercise should be average. Yoga, Tai Chi, hiking and swimming are equally good. Avoid stressful and extreme (at the limit of your capabilities) training.
Tips For Pitta Dosha
- It is important to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Avoid fried and spicy food.
- Eliminate alcohol, nicotine, workaholism and overheating.
- Eat fresh vegetables, sweet and juicy fruit and berries, such as cherries, mangoes, cucumbers, watermelons and avocados.
- Eat more salads with dark greens, such as arugula, dandelion, and kale.
- Avoid conflict.
- Cultivate virtues such as honesty, morality, kindness, generosity, and self-control.
Tips For Kapha Dosha
- Since Kapha is prone to slowness, depression and weight gain, daily activity should become a solid foundation for you.
- It is recommended to stay at home less and try to look for new activities.
- Be receptive to useful changes and aware of the actions that increase vital activity.
- Choose light, warm food with spices.
- Ginger tea with lemon is good for Kapha Dosha people.
- Avoid harmful heavy oils and refined carbs.
- Eat a sufficient amount of spices such as black pepper, ginger, cumin, chili, and more dark bitter greens.

As I mentioned above, for the trendy clothes to be affordable for many people, several sacrifices have to be made. Some of these sacrifices are detrimental to other human beings, animals, and the environment itself. Ethical fashion sheds light on the bad practices that take place behind the scenes that you and I, as consumers, are not aware of when buying the finished product. The critical areas that ethical fashion scrutinizes include:
- The working conditions of the laborers’
In over-populated countries like China, labor is widely available and cheap. Research shows that the laborers are exploited by working overtime, skipping meals, while being paid peanuts. Similarly, there are also cases of child labor and the worst part is the congested and unhygienic working environments with an aim to cut down on production costs. Ethical fashion fights against these poor working conditions.

Polyester is a product of petroleum, and it is one of the most used fabrics. Its production requires a lot of crude oil, and in the process, harmful emissions are released into the atmosphere, which causes respiratory diseases. Eco fashion aims to protect our environment.
Animal cruelty continues to be a controversial topic in the fashion industry. Many people are quick to argue that we cannot be comfortable eating meat yet we are uncomfortable wearing fur or leather from the same animals. However, the bone of contention is the intentional killing of these animals for the sake of their skin other than for food purposes. Either way, we can let our furry friends live in peace if we chose to embrace ethical fashion.
- Environmental degrading
There is a lot of competition among the numerous fashion houses. All of them want to outdo each other. Consequently, they keep coming up with new fashion trends that are affordable, and they aim to sell many pieces so they can continue being relevant. However, the problem comes in the manufacturing bit. Cotton is one of the most used fabric, and some of the pesticides and insecticides used in the cotton plantations are harmful to the environment. When we, as consumers, damp the torn and worn out garments, these pesticides find their way back into rivers and soil. As a result, we contribute to degrading our environment.
- Sustainable production

We should wholeheartedly welcome any movement that seeks to protect our environment and buying eco-friendly clothes is only the beginning. There are numerous ways we can protect our environment and put an end to its degradation.
