Green Tara Mantra is an appeal to the mother of all Buddhas. In Tibet, Tara is revered as a goddess-mother, forgiving and giving love and blessing.
“You know, when there is some really serious pain or problem, somehow, naturally, even grown-ups call on their mother. However, Tara is much closer to you than a mother. Tara is called “mother” because it is the mother who gives birth to children. The meaning of Tara is the transcendental wisdom of great bliss, seeing the absolute truth and the conventional truth of all existence.
“This is the absolute guru – the actual, real guru. All Buddhas are born from this absolute guru, this transcendental wisdom of non-dual bliss and voidness. In reality, every Buddha is the embodiment of this absolute guru and the essence of all the Buddhas is the absolute guru: one manifests in many; many manifest in one. The guru manifests in all these various aspects of Buddha. This is the real meaning of the guru; this is what you should think and understand”. – Lama Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche.
Green Tara
There are twenty-one manifestations of goddess Tara. These manifestations have their distinctive features, and each of them has its own mantra. But among all manifestations, Green Tara occupies a fundamental place.
Before reaching Buddha consciousness, Tara was a woman walking on the bodhisattva path. This woman made a vow to continue her journey until she reached Enlightenment in the female body. After reaching the highest Enlightenment, she manifested herself in different female forms.
Tara supports those who seek Enlightenment and those who seek protection in it. She is an example that anyone can achieve Enlightenment, regardless of whether it is a man or a woman.
By chanting her mantra people defeat all demons, destroy obstacles and achieve fulfillment of their desires.
Green Tara helps everyone who makes a sincere request to her in difficult situations. She is the guardian of the family, heart, helps to create a family, and especially helps women who want to have children and pregnant women. She also lengthens life and removes all obstacles.

Green Tara Visualization
While chanting the mantra you need to practice the visualization described below.
Imagine a white Lotus, on which the Moon rests. On the top of the Moon visualize the seed syllable TAM. It is green, and it symbolizes the enlightened mind of the healer. The syllable radiates light to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as an offering and returns with their blessing back.
Then the light radiates to all beings, eliminates their suffering, sickness, and darkness, and, for the benefit of others, returns back to the seed syllable, after which it is converted into Green Tara.
Now visualize yourself in the form of Green Tara. Her skin is green. She’s sitting in the Half Lotus Pose (the right leg is slightly extended forward, and the left one is preloaded). She’s radiating light. Her right hand is in the gesture of Supreme giving. Her left hand is raised in the mudra of Three Jewels, holding the stem of the blue flower – utpala.
Green Tara’s eyes express compassion and kindness.
There is a white OM on her forehead.
It’s signifying the essence of her holy body. White light is coming from OM. It purifies all obstacles and negative karma.
There is the red syllable AH on her throat.
It is the essence of her holy speech. Red light is coming from AH. It purifies negative karma caused by speech.
There is the blue syllable HUM on Tara’s heart.
It’s the essence of her holy mind. Blue light is coming from the HUM syllable. It purifies all obstacles and negative karma caused by the impure thoughts of the mind.
Visualize a green syllable Tam inside the Moon. Place it in your heart. Visualize along the edge of the Moon the syllables of Green Tara mantra. During the Green Tara mantra chanting, the syllables are moving in a circle clockwise. The light from the seed syllable and the syllables of the mantra is spreading in all directions. This light is reaching all beings requiring healing, eliminating their disease, and they themselves become Taras. There are also Moons in their chests with the syllable TAM and the mantra. The light from them is spreading to all other beings, and so on.
